Are you passionate about leading technological transformation in critical transport infrastructures? The railway sector is currently undergoing one of its most significant historical revolutions: the migration from traditional analog and digital systems (GSM-R) to the next generation of 5G-based Future Railway Mobile Communication Systems (FRMCS). We are looking for an experienced Network Migration Systems Engineer to join an international leader in mission-critical communication solutions. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in designing, structuring, and executing the transition roadmap toward FRMCS across major European projects, ensuring absolute continuity and safety of railway operations at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Target Architecture Design: Develop target architectures, transition concepts, and advanced migration strategies to evolve existing GSM-R networks into FRMCS environments.
- Risk Mitigation & Continuity: Define migration phases, fallback strategies, and rollback plans to ensure uninterrupted availability of train-to-ground communication services during migration.
- Technical Analysis & Engineering: Analyze existing GSM-R infrastructures to assess technical, operational, and regulatory impacts. Create High-Level Designs (HLDs), technical concepts, and Method of Procedures (MoPs).
- Technical Stakeholder Management: Act as the key technical interface, coordinating technical topics with infrastructure operators, railway companies, customers, suppliers, and OEM partners.
- Pilots & Innovation: Technically and organizationally support pilot projects, Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs), field tests, and initial commercial FRMCS implementations.
What We Are Looking For
- Education: Completed technical degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a comparable background.
- Professional Experience: Several years of professional experience in GSM-R, Mission Critical Communications (MCX), railway telecommunications, or comparable telecommunication networks.
- Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of GSM-R network architectures and Core NSS components, combined with familiarity in FRMCS, MCX (MCPTT, MCData, MCVideo), and 5G environments.
- Migration Background: Proven experience in the planning, migration, or technical evolution of complex live telecommunication networks.
- Key Competencies: Demonstrated experience in international customer projects and technical stakeholder management.
- Languages: Excellent command of both German and English (spoken and written).
- Availability: Readiness for occasional business travel.
