☆ US INDEPENDENCE DAY 2025 ☆
For me, Independence Day illustrates in the purest way, how young the term “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” actually is, how little a period of 249 years is in prehistoric history and in the sense of evolutionary theory. As non-American, I cannot even begin to fathom the significance of this day for one of the largest nations in the world in terms of size and population and one of the greatest nations in terms of values and humanity. It must have been a true liberation in the year 1776, to finally become free and independent, after such a long period of colonial occupation.
It is more than just a holiday in the USA, it is the commemoration of a day that shaped and continues to shape the new self-confidence of an entire nation, a true human resurrection, so to speak. I am Austrian, as you know, and Austria also celebrates its Independence Day on October 26th every year. This day commemorates the signing of the Austrian State Treaty in 1955 and the associated declaration of neutrality by Austria, which marked the withdrawal of occupying troops after World War II and the country’s regaining full sovereignty.
Dear American friends and All-Star-Dream-Team in the USA, today I have motivated myself to consider the question of what independence ideally could and should mean.
Apart from the precise historical significance of this holiday in the USA, “independence” is also our credo at ISG.
In an age of globalizing, pluralistic societal concepts and -forms, togetherness and cooperation are more important than ever. Independence and entrepreneurship while simultaneously being together in the broadest global sense actually represents, what defines us as the ISG-Group as well. The combination of individual personal freedom and global structure and connectedness, defines the philosophy of ISG.
So, what idea remains at the end of such a significant day?
I take the following with me from the USA’s Independence Day:
As humans, we only have a very limited time on this surface, called “Earth”. It is important – without neglecting the self-esteem of the single individual and the associated sovereignty of entire nations – to become aware every day anew, that only in a common, so to speak, unifying approach, hope for something like “infinity” and the eternal continuation of our values as human beings can shine through. It is this “spark” that is often needed to make hearts beat faster.
In my daily work with my team in the US, I see that it’s precisely these small, important differences, opinions, perspectives, and complements between different cultures and people that contribute to team success. It’s precisely these moments that can create happiness and satisfaction.
Emotion, in conjunction with reason and humanity, can achieve things we can only dream of. Today, I wish our esteemed colleagues and their families in the USA health, joy, and fulfillment in their lives. Let us observe this day with reverence and celebrate appropriately. Remembering all the sacrifices and hardships that this freedom and this new value system demanded.
